Weight of the Weave

Ceramics, Jute
86 x 75 x 45 cm

Weight of the Weave is a ceramic reimagining of the traditional rag-clip rug, inspired by generations of family craft. Karen Horsfall draws on memories of making these rugs with her family, recalling their physical weight and significance.

Made from individually hand-formed ceramic clips that have been stitched onto jute sacking, the work incorporates leftover clay from previous projects, echoing the way traditional rag rugs were created from unwanted clothing. Displayed draped over a chair as though resting on the maker’s knees, echoing its weight.
