How the Light Gets In

Ink on paper
100cm x 50cm

In a period of recovery, this is the first time in three years I have returned to drawing trees and forests.

A symbolic light has long been a part of my drawings of trees: alongside a sense of being trapped and lost: representing beauty, the search the hope and purpose one needs to recover.

There is darkness and light within us all; accepting both is the key to wellbeing –

I have focused on the light in these drawings, more than the darkness and more than in any of my previous work. “there’s a crack, a crack in everything – that’s how the light gets in.” [L. Cohen]
